About Us

Chris Casey

I grew up in Huntington Beach, California, where I spent many of the finest hours of my youth, before growing up and making a detour for a career in our nation’s capital. But I still return home to HB regularly, and I still love every minute I’m able to spend on our beach. I also hate litter. On one visit home in 2014, I participated in a beach cleanup sponsored by the Huntington Beach/Seal Beach chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and had a bit of an epiphany, my dream job is to pick up trash on the beach. And my dream is that once clean, it can stay that way, because we’ve all learned to respect our beach. Crazy? Maybe. But I like this dream.

I grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, loved our beach, but also eventually found myself working in the DC area. I took every opportunity to visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina with family and friends on vacations, each time asking myself, “Why don’t I live here?”. In time I found the answer I was looking for, “I CAN live there”, and to Manteo I moved. And having enjoyed our OBX beaches, first as a visitor, and now as a local, my passion for protecting them and spreading a message to remind everyone to ‘Respect Our Beach’ sparked the idea behind this effort. So come, enjoy our beach. Just pick your shit up when you leave.

I grew up in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, and enjoyed jumping off the jetty at Town Neck beach, and bonfires on Sandy Neck beach. As an adult, I’ve been happy to bring my own kids to these same beaches, as well as to the beaches on Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan, and the beaches of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Sharing my love of the beach with my kids has meant also sharing the responsibility of keeping OUR beaches clean. It’s a responsibility we all share, and a message that I’m happy to help spread. After all, can you really call yourself a beach lover, and not also be a litter hater? I don’t think so.
